Ever thought of building a parabolic torus?
-
I'm considering using metal electric conduit pipe mounted on the walls. I haven't decided what color to paint the conduit, maybe a steampunk look.
-
I don't see why you couldnt use a small router and make channels in the aircrete to hide the romex, then mix some mortar or stucco and fill in the channels. This would give you a very professional looking finish quite easily. You could even sink the outlet boxes and light switch boxes into the aircrete to give it a flush to the surface appearance.
Thats how I would do it. A router would cut grooves in the aircrete super easily, like butter.@cristiespring said in Ever thought of building a parabolic torus?:

@upwinger I considered that, but would that weaken the structure if the thickness of the walls be 4in? 6in?
-
@knowitallteen I'd like my wall thickness to be 4 inches. I think 1/2" flexible steel conduit could be used it it was well supported. I could see having a parabolic structure with a roof for my home.

@upwinger sounds very dusty!

LOL! I have no doubts you are correct!!
If you do most of the wiring from the exterior, it may be better for one's health. Cement sarcoidosis would not be pleasant!@knowitallteen I think if it is done before the "skin" is mortared on, It shouldn't effect the strength. IDK for sure though.
But if I was building a dome for a living structure, I would want no less than 6" thickness... I would prefer 8" thick walls, especially near the base. Maybe tapering to 5" at the ceilings might be ok. What do you experienced builders think about this concept?? -
@upwinger I was thinking about surface mounting the 1/2" flexible conduit. Because it's flexible it can be trained into any shape, but be careful not to kink the romex inside of it. I'm planning on spraying the conduit all over with forest green spray paint and splashes of brown spray paint . Then I'll use some type of fastener or flexible wire to attach fabric or plastic leaves so it looks like ivy climbing the interior walls and ceiling. Masks should be worn around cement dust and paint.

@KnowItAllTeen I think that having extra thick walls at the base and tapering to the top is a brilliant idea. I wonder how the base of the wall could be reinforced.

Its been a while since I've checked out his channel, but Aircrete Harry made some YT videos using basalt in the aircrete.
